Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017

MOP 455.00

Very dark robe, more black-purple than dark red. The bouquet is dense, unwavering, on a thorough black jam paste aroma, a super coulis of blueberry, nudges of black olives lurking. The palate is stylish, very filled, has salted threads along the way, the flavour one of bold black fruits with a sealed, always smooth, oily, gummy texture. This has enormous richness, fantastic length, is a very dense orb, with the tannins showing some spark and spice, tar, towards the close.

Description

“This well-known, large (over 250 acres) Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate has produced some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes I have ever tasted, including their 1949 (one of the top 25 wines of my lifetime), 1955 and 1961.
This visit was the first time I have had a chance to taste these wines in many years, and it appears a younger generation is making a comeback with their offerings from Lirac and Chateauneuf du Pape”. – ROBERT PARKER
The first vines found at Château Mont-Redon date back to Roman times, with the first written mention dating back to 1334.
Vines were planted at the bottom of the hill “Mons Retundus”, from which the estate took its name, sheltered from the Mistral wind. Château Mont-Redon’s superb terroir, constant pursuit of quality and enviable reputation for excellence rank it among the great crus of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyard has been in the skilled hands of the Plantin family since 1923, and today Mont-Redon is the largest single-vineyard estate of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and one of only two in the entire appellation supporting plantings of all 18 grape varieties authorized for Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The “House Blend” of the Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red differs from year to year but consists mainly of Grenache (around 60%), Syrah (around 30%), Mourvèdre (around 8%), with Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin & Vaccarèse fleshing out the rest.”
